Meet Democrat Rudy Soto

The experience that moved Rudy to run for office is unfortunately all too familiar for many Americans — his father was laid off from his factory job due to plant closures and the expansion of automation. Shortly after, he lost his health insurance, fell ill, and was diagnosed with cancer. With his cancer considered a “pre-existing condition,” he was essentially locked out of all health care coverage and was forced to use painkillers as his primary treatment. He passed away abruptly just months later.

Rudy believes health care should be a human right and never wants another family to go through what his did ever again. In Congress, he will fight for a pathway to quality and affordable health care for all Americans.

Born and raised in Nampa, Idaho, Rudy is a member of the Shoshone Bannock Tribe and the son of a Mexican immigrant. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college. During and after his higher education, he proudly served as a citizen/soldier in the U.S. Army National Guard. He continued his career in the nation’s capital, working his way up from serving as an intern to a congressional legislative assistant to the legislative director for the National Indian Gaming Association. Rudy is ready to bring his knowledge of the challenges Idahoans
experience and his passion for public service to the United States House of Representatives.

Rudy knows we all have much more in common than the talking heads in Washington say we do: We breathe the same air, drink the same water, and care most about taking care of our families and protecting our communities. He is dedicated to working with people from all backgrounds to solve the everyday problems each of us face. Rudy hopes you will join him in the fight to create greater opportunity and equity for all in Idaho’s First District.
